31st Annual International Coastal Cleanup
The Indian River Lagoon and our beautiful beaches are essential to the local tourism and the heart of our community. While it is up to politicians and scientists to fix chemical pollution and release impacts on the Lagoon and Estuary, there is a form of pollution that is killing our wildlife and adding slow releasing toxins that you can prevent right now. Litter is a major issue in our waterways /and beaches.  Not only is it entangling our birds and creatures, it negatively impacts our ecotourism economy. Keep Indian River Beautiful is recruiting volunteers to remove litter and marine debris on Saturday, September 17th at the International Coastal Cleanup. Join the millions of people worldwide cleaning up marine debris hosted by The Ocean Conservancy.
As part of the International Coastal Cleanup, our volunteers will not only improve our community, they will be collecting data to help track the litter locally and globally.  This information will be used to pinpoint local needs and brought to the United Nations and other key political arenas to influence future World Ocean policies. Last year, cigarette butts again topped the list of most littered item in Indian River county.
Keep Indian River Beautiful provides supplies such as gloves, trash bags and hand sanitizer to all volunteers as well as T-shirts and other give away items. Community service hours are provided upon request.
