“Adopt-A” Programs
 Adopt-A-Shore, Adopt-A-Highway, Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Fishing Line Bin

As an individual, group or business, “Adopting” any of these areas is committing to clean it up a minimum of 4 times per year for 2 years. Keep Indian River Beautiful provides all of the supplies including gloves, trash bags, litter grabbers and vests (if necessary). There are still many shorelines and roads available to adopt.

To Adopt a local Highway through the FDOT, call (800) BAN-LITT(er).
This program is supported by the Florida Department of Transportation and Indian River County.

Cigarette Litter Prevention Program (CLPP)
The #1 littered item in the world, cigarette butts and cigar butts are a growing problem for our environment, clean water supply and the wildlife in our Indian River Lagoon. You can help stop this chemical pollution of our delicate Estuary

by choosing to smoke responsibly or joining our efforts to remove the litter from our shorelines.

Thanks to grants from Keep America Beautiful and local partnerships, KIRB has placed 20 Cigarette Receptacles in public spaces throughout Indian River County. Pocket Ashtrays are provided free upon request at our

Upcycle It! Store or our education booths at local events.

Great American Cleanup

Keep Indian River Beautiful recruits volunteers, Site Captains, and local sponsors to foster unity and strengthen community bonds through beautification and improvement efforts across Indian River County. The nation’s largest grassroots community improvement effort, this locally activated program brings the power of volunteers and sponsors together to inspire change and build sustainable, vibrant communities.

The theme - Drive it Home - Keep Our Paradise Litter-Free - is a call to action to residents and motorists to keep our Florida Roads and public spaces clean and litter free. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and any individual, family, school, group, place of worship, business or government entity can coordinate or participate in

projects anywhere in the county. Contact KIRB at any time for supplies or assistance to coordinate a community improvement project.

International Coastal Cleanup
The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is a popular, fun and highly visible event in Indian River County.  We recruit hundreds of volunteers, in partnership with sponsors and donors to make a larger impact on the litter and marine debris endangering our wildlife and the community's environmental tourism. The purpose of this event is to engage people around the world to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways, to identify the sources of the litter by categorizing and counting, and to change the behaviors that causes pollution. Presented by the Ocean Conservancy, nearly 9 million volunteers from 152 countries have cleaned millions of pounds of trash from our shores, rivers, lakes, lagoon, waterways and ocean’s on just one day each year.  Through its International visibility, the ICC has raised public awareness about inappropriate waste management practices and trending litter concerns for our world oceans.  The International Coastal Cleanup is the most recognized cleanup event in the world and

takes place the third Saturday in September.

Thank you to our volunteers and sponsors!

Litter Cleanup

Any group at any time can request free cleanup supplies from Keep Indian River Beautiful to help remove harmful litter and debris from our roads, waterways and shorelines. On the water or on the land, Indian River needs volunteers tackling the blight in our community.  Our county scored a 2.33 on a 4 point litter scale called the Community Appearance Index developed by Keep America Beautiful in the 1970's. Indian River County and our City Municipalities thrive on our

Eco-Tourism trade to bring money and new residents to our home.  A littered beach or littered roadsides are a repellent and deterrent for return visits. This issue can and will turn people away from businesses or buying houses in an afflicted community. You, your family or your company can take action and be the solution. By recognizing litter on your street and calling Keep Indian River Beautiful, you can make a difference.

Tree Planting & Community Greening

Keep Indian River Beautiful is increasing its efforts to help "green up" our community.  We have tools groups can borrow such as shovels, rakes, leaf blower, gloves and more. Through grants with UPS and CSX, Keep Indian River Beautiful has planted over 75 native trees to help prevent erosion and flooding in the fall of 2016.

Keep Indian River Beautiful is also working on Community Garden opportunities and other community greening projects. If you have a project you would like assistance with, please contact us!
